Dr. Dumanian is Chief of Plastic Surgery at Northwestern. He is a surgical innovator who developed Targeted Muscle Reinnervation for the treatment of painful nerve endings and for amputees to move bionic limbs. He also is the creator of the FDA approved Mesh Suture –the first new surgical suture design in 30 years. The suture holds tissue, and the tissue grows into the suture for a better hold. It is designed for high-tension internal closures such as for the abdominal wall, Achilles tendon, rotator cuff repair, and finger tendon surgery. Dr. Dumanian performs the full range of body contouring procedures after weight loss, abdominal rejuvenation, and reconstructive procedures.

Dr. Dumanian, a native Chicagoan, graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College, and trained at the finest medical programs in the country. After graduating with honors from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, he completed a five-year residency in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He followed this with three years of plastic surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh, one of the premier plastic surgery programs in the country. He then completed a fellowship in hand surgery at the Curtis Hand Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
